ContentsCMGA'98 InvitationIt gives me great pleasure to invite you to attend the 14th CMGA Annual Conference to be held at the Brisbane Convention Centre from 28th to 30th July 1998. The competitive pressures of our industry continue to increase and so does our need to stay up to date with technology, methods and tools available. For all of us in the IT industry our challenge is to apply IT to meet the business needs of organisations in the most cost effective manner. By attending CMGA'98 you will gain vital knowledge from the independent views, user experiences and in depth knowledge of a wide range of experts across all IT platforms.Four streams will be available for delegates to choose from over the three days of the Conference. Each day will have one or two Keynote presentations on some really interesting topics. For example, if you would like to hear about the IT infrastructure that makes the Olympics function smoothly then you won't want to miss our Locknote address by Mr Geoff Hegarty who is Manager of the Technology Briefing Centre (Olympics Project Office). The main program streams feature papers on Enterprise Management, Storage Management, Client Server, Open Systems Networking and more, addressing IT issues across all platforms. Again this year it is CMGA's pleasure to welcome two renowned international guests who will run pre-conference seminars. Steve Samson and Tom Beretvas from the USA are leaders in their field of expertise. Steve will share his hands on experiences of implementing Workload Manager in Goal mode for CICS, MQ, DB2, DDF and batch workloads. Tom will present a seminar based on the course he teaches covering New DASD Technology and DASD Capacity Planning. Both of these international guests are also presenting papers on different topics in the main streams. Two other important aspects of our annual conferences are the vendor exhibition and the social events. The social events allow attendees to mingle with colleagues, both gurus, peers and vendors in a relaxed atmosphere to exchange ideas and experiences. The vendor exhibition offers the opportunity to catch up on the latest technology and tools on offer. I hope you won't miss this opportunity to join us for this important annual event. You will find it rewarding. I look forward to welcoming you to CMGA'98 at the Brisbane Convention Centre in July.

Presentation Policy It would be unacceptable to simply exclude presentations by vendor representatives because of the significant contributions made by these presentations. Therefore, CMGA has established a policy for presentations by vendor representatives at CMGA Conferences. Presentations that describe or introduce products are unacceptable as part of the general program. However, the vendor may choose to make such presentations during the Vendor Stream at the conference where marketing focus is expected. In the event that a speaker begins a flagrant marketing presentation during a normal CMGA session, the session chair will halt the presentation.
