Mainstar International
Software Background In 1989, Mainstar was the first company to bring to market a mainframe (OS/390) HSM reporting product, demonstrating the foresight to recognize a need for HSM tools to better manage an ever-burgeoning DASD environment. This original product, entitled HSM Reporter/Manager, has evolved into a suite of mainframe HSM management products, including HSM FastAudit, Storage Manager, and VSAM Manager. This expertise led to development of Mainstar’s disaster recovery suite of products, including ABARS Manager, ASAP, and a collection of ABARS-related utility products, designed for comprehensive OS/390 disaster recovery support. These products add significant functionality to IBM’s base Aggregate Backup And Recovery Support (ABARS) within HSM, and as a result, both IBM and HDS are resellers of this software. ABARS, coupled with the Mainstar ABARS-related products, is rapidly becoming a leader in disaster recovery support, as well as for local recovery, enabling all other forms of disaster backup and recovery software to be discarded.

But to understand what MXG is really all about requires you to know a little about who we are. Our entire company philosophy revolves around several concepts that are near and dear to us. One of them is the ancient concept of Sharing Information. That was what computers were supposed to provide our civilization-a means whereby many users could share and exchange information designed to advance their work and expedite output in a minimum of time. That's exactly what MXG Software does: we share all that we know about Computer Performance Evaluation with bright users who share and contribute their discoveries with us to share with you. [And we give credit in our MXG Newsletter and in Chapter 99 to every user who has contributed to MXG! We make it easy, since we ALWAYS distribute 100% source code. Another concept we hold dear is Efficiency. Good quality software does not need to cost an arm and a leg, plus your firstborn child, and should not require multi-page negotiated contracts designed by lawyers. Our price is the same for each data center, and does not depend on the size nor on the number of CPUs at that site. MXG is single priced and will never charge for additional components; it also does not check CPU serial numbers-we trust our honest users. From the smallest computer shop to the largest megadata center with 10-digit budgets, everyone pays the same price, and everyone signs the same agreement. But most importantly, we are a Service company. Our whole aim in life is to provide support and maintenance to our technical folks who spend their days, nights, and weekends making data centers run smoothly. That's why we often answer our phone on weekends, and have 24-hour fax service, because we believe the Technical CPE person is a data center's most valuable resource. We are devoted to our technical user, and do our best to deliver nearly perfect code, and to document the constant change in hardware, software, and technology through technical MXG Newsletters. We are a Mom and Dad Texas Software Company, based in Dallas, and we are proud to be a leader in demonstrating that small businesses can provide extremely high quality mainframe software with word-of-mouth marketing! MXG Software has been installed in over 6,000 sites, in all 50 states, and in 52 countries! Our price was changed once since 1984, and we don't plan to change our price again until after the third Woodstock, in August, 2019.
Rufunsa Technology Services
Technical Library Administration Service (TLAS)
Rufunsa has developed our Library Management System (LMS) to provide an integrated online catalogue of hard copy and softcopy titles. LMS facilitates management of both hard copy and CD based libraries, and provides direct access to Intranet/Internet based books for Client staff. Through the LMS search facility, users have always been able to quickly find the location of a hardcopy document - without necessarily knowing the complete name of the document. Now, Rufunsa has added the capability to access softcopy versions of a document directly from LMS. First, a user looks up the manual required in the LMS catalogue. Then, via a “View Manual Online button”, LMS automatically defaults to a Server based book or, if not available, goes directly to the manual’s Internet URL address, and opens the manual at the index page - without further Client intervention required. Rufunsa takes care of URL address maintenance in LMS as part of our overall Library Administration Service
IT Contracting & Recruitment
Our aim has been to differentiate ourselves from our competitors through our specialisation and quality customer service. Our Clients appreciate our ability to understand their technical environments and recruiting needs, and many Candidates choose to place their CVs with Rufunsa, exclusively, because of our affinity with their technical background and our focus on an open, supportive, and ethical relationship. Our value add services include staff retention and recruitment strategies: spot market intelligence about competition for rare skills, staff marketability (retention/loss potential), market salary packages (considering job functionality and responsibilities - not just job titles), and outplacement support. And for the individual: career counselling and job search strategies.
